Program Overview

The Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP), funded by the Government of Japan, gives citizens of ADB's developing member countries the chance to study for a master's degree at 27 selected institutions across Asia and the Pacific, including 17 in Japan. Scholars return to their home country after their studies to use their new skills for its development. You apply through the institution you want to attend, and each one sets its own deadline, so no single date is shown here. As examples, ADB's list of institutions shows a December deadline at Ritsumeikan University for the September intake and 1 December at the University of Hawaii for the August intake. You must be 35 or younger and have at least two years of full-time work experience. This page was last checked against the ADB website on 7 October 2026. Last checked 8 October 2026 against ADB pages: the programme offers about 130 scholarships a year at 27 institutions, 17 of them in Japan. ADB's programme page lists Pakistan among the eligible countries; confirm this on the ADB page before you apply. You apply to the institution, not to ADB, and send the ADB-JSP Information Sheet with your admission form at least six months before the course starts. The scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly subsistence and housing allowance, a books allowance, medical insurance and travel, for up to two years of master's study. Applicants who apply to an institution in their own country may not be selected.
