Program Overview
The Australian National University funds research students through the Australian Government Research Training Program stipend, ANU PhD Scholarships and the ANU University Research Scholarships. The stipend is 39,069 Australian dollars a year at the 2026 rate, the only rate on the official pages so far, for 3.5 years. International students also need the ANU HDR Fee Merit Scholarship, which covers the international tuition fees and overseas student health cover, to be fully funded.
There is no separate scholarship form for new applicants: apply for admission by the round deadline and you are considered automatically. Round 1 for international applicants closed on 31 August 2026. Round 2, for international and domestic applicants, closes on 15 April 2027, for a start by 31 August 2027. This page was last checked against the ANU website on 7 October 2026.
