Program Overview

Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships are funded by the Australian government and awarded by universities to research master's and PhD students, including international students. They can include a tuition fee offset, a living stipend and health cover. Each university runs its own scholarship rounds; many international rounds for study starting in mid 2027 close around October 2026. The date below is an estimate, so check your chosen university's research scholarship page. The Australian Government has set the RTP stipend rates for 2027: the full-time base rate is 35,550 Australian dollars a year and the maximum full-time rate is 55,537 Australian dollars a year (2026: 34,315 and 53,608). Each university decides the exact stipend it pays within this range and runs its own application rounds, so the date shown on this page is an estimate. The rates were checked against the Australian Department of Education website on 7 October 2026.
