Program Overview

The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) funds nationals of developing countries to study for a master's degree in a development-related field. For 2027 you must first be admitted to one of 44 participating master's programmes at 24 universities, and that university must shortlist you. Only then does the World Bank send you the scholarship application link. After their degree, scholars commit to return to their home country. The 2027 application is organised in two rounds: Window 1 from 18 January to 26 February 2027, and Window 2 from 29 March to 21 May 2027. The window you use depends on your programme, and you may submit one application only. The deadline shown here is the end of Window 2. This page was last checked against the World Bank website on 7 October 2026. Update, 8 October 2026: Pakistan is on the World Bank's list of eligible countries for 2027. Window 1 is open from 18 January to 26 February 2027, and Window 2 from 29 March to 21 May 2027. You must already hold an unconditional admission offer (except for funding) from a participating programme outside your home country. The closing time for 2027 is not published yet.
