Program Overview

Kyoto University supports international students through the MEXT scholarship (embassy and university recommendation), tuition exemptions and private foundation scholarships available after enrolment. Several English-taught graduate programmes accept applications from late 2026 for entry in 2027. Each programme sets its own deadline; the date below is an estimate for many programmes. Checked on 8 October 2026 against Kyoto University pages: most MEXT scholarship students at Kyoto University are selected through Embassy Recommendation, which is applied for at the Japanese embassy around April to May. University Recommendation is only for students in special programmes approved by MEXT, and its dates vary by programme. The MEXT Honors Scholarship pays 48,000 yen a month (rate from April 2025). There is no single university deadline, so the date shown on this page is only an estimate.
