Universiti Malaya says it does not offer central scholarships to master's and doctoral students. Its main support is the Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) scheme under the Universiti Malaya Scholarship Scheme, which is open to Malaysian and non-Malaysian postgraduate students. A supervisor pays the stipend from a research grant: the minimum is 1,000 ringgit a month, for 4 months to 3 years depending on the grant.
A tuition fee waiver applies only to full research programmes and only within set time limits, and the separate international student fee is not waived, so this is partial funding. There is no single deadline: each research assistant vacancy has its own closing date in the university's recruitment system, and some vacancies are for Malaysian citizens only.
