Program Overview

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program funds graduate study and research in the United States for students from more than 150 countries. It is run by binational Fulbright commissions or US embassies, which each set their own application window, often 15 to 18 months before studies start. Because every country has its own date, no single deadline is shown here. In Pakistan the programme is run by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP). Its last round, for study starting in 2027, closed on 1 April 2026, and the next round has not been announced. USEFP requires the GRE General Test with at least 145 on each section. The award covers tuition, textbooks, airfare, a living stipend and health insurance. This page was last checked against the USEFP website on 7 October 2026. Last checked 8 October 2026 against the USEFP website: the round for the 2028 intake is not announced yet. The last deadline was 1 April 2026. The award covers tuition, required textbooks, airfare, a living stipend and health insurance. Work experience in teaching, research or the public sector is highly desirable for PhD applicants. After the deadline, reviews and interviews run until August and results come in mid-September. PhD grantees also sign a bond with HEC to return and serve in Pakistan.
