Program Overview

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), run by Korea's National Institute for International Education (NIIED), funds master's and PhD study at Korean universities, usually with one year of Korean language training first. You apply through either the embassy track (up to three universities) or the university track (one university). NIIED normally publishes the graduate programme guidelines in February, with application deadlines in March; the date below is an estimate for the 2027 programme. Note, 7 October 2026: NIIED has not yet published the guideline for the 2027 GKS graduate round, so the date shown on this page is an estimate and the amounts are from the last round. The 2027 undergraduate guideline changed the monthly allowance to one all-inclusive amount, and the graduate guideline may change in the same way. Check Study in Korea for the official 2027 call before you rely on any figure. Update, 8 October 2026: the 2027 guideline for graduate degrees is still not published. Study in Korea says graduate guidelines are usually posted in February. Current official eligibility: the applicant and parents must not hold Korean citizenship, the applicant must be under 40, hold a bachelor's or master's degree, and have an average grade of at least 80%.
