Program Overview

Commonwealth Scholarships are funded by the UK government through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) for talented people from eligible low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries. Master's awards fund one year of taught study and PhD awards fund up to four years of doctoral research at a UK university. Applications for 2027/28 opened on 8 September 2026 on CSC Central and close on 20 October 2026 at 16:00 BST. You must also apply through a nominating body (usually your national nominating agency), which may set an earlier deadline. Nominators submit candidates to the CSC by December 2026 and results are expected by July 2027. Update, 8 October 2026, for applicants from Pakistan: the Higher Education Commission (HEC) is the national nominating agency. You must apply on both portals. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission portal closes on Tuesday 20 October 2026 at 16:00 BST, and the HEC portal closes on 20 October 2026 at 4:00 PM Pakistan time. HEC asks for a HAT score of at least 60 out of 100, and the test on 25 October 2026 is the last one that counts for this cycle. HEC lists 26 nominations for master's and 30 for PhD, and says there is no upper age limit. Nominations are expected in December 2026 and results by July 2027. The current stipend is 1,712 pounds a month, or 2,000 pounds a month in the London area.
