Program Overview

DAAD's EPOS programme funds professionals from developing countries to complete selected master's (and some PhD) courses in Germany in fields linked to development. Applicants usually need at least two years of relevant work experience. Each course sets its own deadline, mostly between August and October of the year before studies begin; the date below is a typical deadline for the 2027/28 courses, so check your chosen course in the DAAD database. Checked on 7 October 2026 against DAAD's scholarship database: the EPOS monthly payment is 992 euros for master's students and 1,400 euros for doctoral candidates (the doctoral rate rose from 1,300 euros in February 2026). DAAD also pays towards health, accident and personal liability insurance. Each course sets its own application deadline and procedure. Also confirmed from DAAD's own text: applicants need at least two years of related professional experience after their first degree and results well above average. The motivation letter is at most 2 pages, you may apply for up to 3 courses with one motivation letter, and an institutional TOEFL is not accepted as language proof. Update, 8 October 2026: DAAD has published the list of postgraduate courses with application deadlines for 2027/2028; each course sets its own deadline. Your last degree should normally be no more than six years old. The scholarship also includes insurance payments and a travel allowance, unless another funder covers travel.
