Program Overview

The Geneva Graduate Institute Scholarship offers financial aid for international students starting a Master's or PhD in Geneva, Switzerland, in September 2027. Applications are open now, and the deadline for all MA and PhD programmes is Thursday 14 January 2027 at midnight Geneva time. This is the only round in which Master's applicants can request financial aid. Master's students can receive a full or partial scholarship of up to CHF 20,000 for two years and/or a tuition reduction. The Financial Aid Committee decides based on documented financial need, academic excellence and available funds, and about 10 to 15 per cent of new Master's students receive aid each year. Aid is renewable for the second year if your need remains. Master's tuition is CHF 8,000 a year for applicants from abroad. Every PhD admission offer comes with a four-year support package; the Institute's own package pays CHF 20,000 a year (CHF 2,000 a month from September to June), while tuition is CHF 3,000 in year one and CHF 1,000 after that. The Institute is open to applicants of any nationality, and around 85 per cent of its students are international. Programmes include the interdisciplinary Master in International and Development Studies (MINT) and disciplinary Master's and PhD programmes in Anthropology and Sociology, International Economics, International History and Politics, International Law, and International Relations/Political Science. You need English at C1 level, for example TOEFL iBT 100 or IELTS 7.0; Duolingo is not accepted. French is not required. Apply online with a motivation letter of up to 800 words, a CV, official transcripts, diplomas, an English certificate, a passport copy and two or three referees, who have until 22 January 2027 to upload their letters. PhD applicants also submit a Master's dissertation and a thesis proposal. Master's applicants requesting aid add a cover letter on financial need and income documents. The application fee is CHF 100 and cannot be waived, and you may submit only one MA or PhD application per cycle. Admission is need-blind. Last checked on 30 October 2026 against the Geneva Graduate Institute admissions, fees and financial aid, and programme pages, and its application and financial aid checklists (September 2026).
