Program Overview

Stipendium Hungaricum is the Hungarian government's scholarship programme for international students. It funds bachelor's, master's, one-tier master's, doctoral and non-degree study at Hungarian universities. You apply online, and in most countries you must also be nominated by the sending partner for your country, such as a ministry or education authority. When this page was checked, the programme's website still showed the call for 2026/2027. The call for 2027/2028 has opened in November in earlier years, with a deadline in mid-January, so the date shown here is an estimate. The last deadline was 15 January 2026 at 14:00 Central European Time. Read the new call for applications and the list of sending partners before you apply. This page was last checked against the official website on 7 October 2026. Update, 8 October 2026: the 2027/2028 call is not published yet. A Hungarian host university says the next application period will start in November 2026. In the last cycle the deadline was 15 January 2026 at 2 pm. Pakistan is a Sending Partner, so you must also be nominated by the responsible authority in Pakistan. Last cycle's support for bachelor's and master's students: no tuition fee, 43,700 forints a month, a free dormitory place or 40,000 forints a month towards housing, and medical insurance of up to 65,000 forints a year. The call itself says this is only a contribution to living costs. Last checked 8 October 2026 against the 2026/27 doctoral call and HEC pages: PhD students receive 140,000 forints a month in the first four semesters and 180,000 forints a month in the last four, paid 12 months a year. Applicants from Pakistan must apply on both the Stipendium Hungaricum portal and the HEC portal, and every nomination from Pakistan goes through HEC. In the last cycle both portals closed on 15 January 2026 (4:00 pm Pakistan time on the HEC portal). The 2027/28 call and the HEC notice are not published yet.
