Lusail University in Qatar offers 12 bachelor’s programmes under the Qatar Scholarship Program for international students who do not live in Qatar. Applicants must be 18 to 22 and have a high school grade of at least 90%.

This guide was checked on 15 October 2026 against the official Lusail University international students page and the Qatar Scholarships programme page.

What the scholarship covers

Qatar Scholarships lists these benefits for Lusail University students:

  • Full tuition waiver
  • A round-trip flight from your home country to Doha
  • Furnished accommodation on campus
  • A monthly stipend
  • Medical insurance

The official pages do not give the stipend amount.

Who can apply

Lusail University lists these conditions:

  • A high school diploma with an overall grade of at least 90%
  • Age 18 to 22
  • No previous certificate from any higher-education institution
  • Not a resident of Qatar
  • Pass a personal interview
  • Pass the Lusail University language test

Qatar Scholarships adds language rules by programme. For English-taught programmes, graduates of English-medium schools with an average of 90% or more qualify, as do applicants with a high school diploma and IELTS 5.5 or higher. Applicants who do not meet the language rules take a placement test.

The official pages do not list eligible countries or name the 12 programmes. Ask the international students office which programmes are open in your intake.

Documents you need

  • A medical certificate proving fitness. A second medical test is done on arrival in Qatar, and failing it ends the nomination.
  • A police clearance certificate accredited by your home country
  • Written permission from your legal guardian
  • A certified birth certificate
  • A valid passport
  • Your high school diploma, attested by your country’s Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Qatari embassy, and then equated through Lusail University and Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education

The attestation chain takes time in most countries. Start it as soon as you have your final high school certificate.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Contact the Lusail University international students office (internationalstudents@lu.edu.qa) to confirm which programmes and intake are open.
  2. Check that you meet the age, grade and residence rules.
  3. Apply through the Lusail University admission portal, linked from the international students page.
  4. Take the language test and personal interview if invited.
  5. If selected, prepare the attested documents and medical certificate.

Key dates

Neither Lusail University nor Qatar Scholarships states an application deadline on its official page. Do not rely on dates shown on other websites. Ask the international students office for the current closing date before you apply.

Is this scholarship right for you?

The Lusail University scholarship is for school leavers who want a full bachelor’s degree in Qatar with most costs covered. It suits you if:

  • You are 18 to 22 years old.
  • You finished, or are finishing, high school with an overall grade of at least 90%.
  • You have not earned any certificate from a university or college.
  • You do not live in Qatar.
  • You are ready to study a programme taught in English, Arabic or French, and to pass a language test and interview.

It does not suit students who already hold a diploma or degree from higher education, residents of Qatar, or students looking for a master’s.

Meeting the 90% grade rule

Lusail University asks for a high school diploma with an overall grade of at least 90%. School systems grade in different ways, such as percentages, letter grades, GPA or national exam scores. If your certificate does not show a percentage, ask the international students office how it converts your grades before you apply. Keep official copies of your final results and any grade scale your school uses, because your diploma will also go through an equivalency process in Qatar.

The language rules

Programmes are taught in English, Arabic or French, and every applicant must pass the Lusail University language test. For English-taught programmes, Qatar Scholarships lists two ways to meet the English requirement:

  • Graduating from an English-medium school with an average of 90% or more.
  • Holding a high school diploma and an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher.

Applicants who do not meet the language rules take a placement test. If your English is close to the level, consider taking IELTS before you apply, since a recognised score is simple evidence. Our comparison of IELTS and TOEFL explains the IELTS format.

Preparing for the language test

Every applicant takes the Lusail University language test, even if they also have another certificate. The official pages do not describe the test format, so prepare broadly in the language of your programme:

  • Reading: practise with short articles and textbook passages, and summarise each in a few sentences.
  • Writing: write short essays of 200 to 300 words on everyday and academic topics, and check grammar and spelling.
  • Listening: listen to lectures, news or podcasts and note the main points.
  • Speaking: practise answering questions aloud, which also helps for the interview.
  • Grammar and vocabulary: review common academic words and sentence structures.

Ask the international students office whether sample questions are available. Applicants who do not meet the language rules take a placement test, so steady practice in the months before you apply is time well spent.

Preparing for the interview

A personal interview is part of the selection. The official pages do not describe its format, so prepare for common scholarship questions:

  • Why this programme? Connect it to your school subjects and interests.
  • Why Lusail University and Qatar? Show that you have read about the programme and what studying there means.
  • Your achievements: grades, projects, competitions, volunteering or leadership.
  • Your goals: what you want to do after graduating.
  • Living away from home: how you will manage studying in a new country.

Practise answering aloud in the language of your programme, in two or three minutes per answer. Our scholarship interview tips include common questions and how to answer them.

The diploma attestation chain, step by step

The most time-consuming document is your attested and equated high school diploma. The official rules describe a chain of steps:

  1. Ministry of Education in your country attests your high school diploma.
  2. Ministry of Foreign Affairs in your country attests the Ministry of Education stamp.
  3. The Qatari embassy in your country attests the document.
  4. Equivalency in Qatar: the diploma is then equated through Lusail University and Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Each office has its own fees, appointments and processing times. Start as soon as you receive your final certificate, and keep scans of every stamped page. If you live far from the capital or from the Qatari embassy, plan travel time too.

The other documents

  • Medical fitness certificate: from a recognised doctor or clinic. A second medical test is done on arrival in Qatar, and failing it ends the nomination.
  • Police clearance certificate: accredited by your home country. Request it early, as it can take weeks.
  • Written permission from your legal guardian: a signed letter giving permission for you to study in Qatar.
  • Certified birth certificate.
  • Valid passport: check that it will remain valid for long enough to cover travel and your residence process.

Questions to ask the international students office

The official pages do not state a closing date, list the 12 programmes or give the stipend amount. Email internationalstudents@lu.edu.qa and ask:

  • Which programmes are open to international scholarship students this intake?
  • What is the closing date, and when are tests and interviews held?
  • How are grades from my school system converted to the 90% rule?
  • Can I apply before my final results, and send the attested diploma later?
  • What is the monthly stipend, and how is it paid?

Keep the replies, and do not rely on dates from other websites.

What the benefits mean in practice

Qatar Scholarships lists five benefits for Lusail University scholarship students. Here is what each one means for your planning:

  • Full tuition waiver: you do not pay tuition for your bachelor’s programme.
  • Round-trip flight: a flight from your home country to Doha and back. Ask when the return flight is provided, for example at the end of your studies or each year.
  • Furnished accommodation on campus: you do not need to find or furnish a flat.
  • Monthly stipend: money for daily costs. The amount is not stated on the official pages, so ask before you plan your budget.
  • Medical insurance: health cover during your studies.

The official pages do not mention costs such as books, a laptop, phone bills or personal travel. Bring some savings for these, especially for your first weeks before the first stipend payment.

Arriving in Qatar

If you are selected, your arrival is part of the process, not the end of it. A second medical test is carried out when you arrive, and the scholarship rules say that failing it ends your nomination. Bring the originals of all your documents, including the attested diploma, and follow the university’s instructions for registration and any residence formalities. Ask the international students office in advance what to bring and who will meet new students.

Choosing your programme and teaching language

Lusail University offers 12 bachelor’s programmes under this scholarship, taught in English, Arabic or French depending on the programme. The official pages do not list them, so ask the international students office for the current list. When you choose:

  • Start with your strengths. Pick a field that builds on your best school subjects, since you will need to keep up your results.
  • Choose a language you can study in. A degree is several years of lectures, exams and assignments, so your level must be strong enough for academic work, not only for the entry test.
  • Think about your career. Consider where you want to work afterwards and which degree helps most.
  • Ask about the structure. Find out whether the programme starts with a foundation or language year.

Talking with your family

The scholarship asks for written permission from your legal guardian, so your family is part of the application. Before you apply, talk with them about the programme, the country, the length of the degree and what the scholarship covers. Share the official pages with them, and agree on how you will stay in touch. A guardian who understands the plan can also help you gather documents such as your birth certificate and police clearance.

Writing about yourself

The official pages do not mention an essay, but the admission portal or interview may ask why you want to study at Lusail University. Prepare a short paragraph that answers three questions: what you want to study, why, and what you plan to do afterwards. Use real examples from school, such as a project, competition, club or volunteering experience. The same paragraph will help you in the interview. Our guide to standing out in a scholarship application has more ideas.

Other fully funded bachelor’s options

Applying to more than one scholarship is sensible, especially when places are limited. Other bachelor’s options with broad funding include:

Each has its own eligibility rules, documents and deadlines, so check the official pages for each one.
