Program Overview

The Warwick Chancellor's Scholarship is a fully funded PhD award at the University of Warwick in Coventry, England, for students of any nationality who will start a doctoral degree in October 2027. Warwick now runs it inside its Warwick Postgraduate Research Scholarships 2027 competition, where up to 30 Faculty Chancellors' Scholarships and up to 12 Interdisciplinary Chancellors' Scholarships are on offer among up to 80 awards in six streams. One application puts you in the running for every stream you are eligible for. Every Warwick postgraduate research scholarship pays your academic fees in full at the UK or international rate and gives you a tax-free maintenance stipend for living costs. The Chancellors' awards pay the stipend at the UKRI rate for 3.5 years and add a 5,000 pound Research Training and Support Grant, paid leave for family and medical reasons and, for eligible international students, the chance to apply for help with UK visa and immigration costs. For reference, UKRI's minimum stipend for 2026/27 is 21,805 pounds a year; Warwick has not yet stated the 2027/28 amount. To be considered you must apply for an eligible research degree at Warwick starting in October 2027: a PhD, MPhil/PhD, EngD or the PhD stage of a Master's plus PhD course such as 1+3 or 2+4. Current Warwick research students cannot apply for the Chancellors' awards, and scholarships cannot be deferred. Assessors rank candidates on two sets of competencies, Person & Preparedness and Project & Place, and Warwick says the success rate is typically 5 to 10 percent. You first submit your PhD course application by 7 December 2026, then complete a separate scholarship application with a 500-word Person & Preparedness statement and an 800-word Project & Place statement by 10 December 2026. References are taken from your course application and are due by 21 December 2026. All deadlines are 16:59 GMT and late submissions are not accepted. Mid-stage notifications go out on 25 January 2027 and offers by 5 March 2027. Last checked on 27 October 2026 against the University of Warwick Doctoral College pages: Warwick PGR Scholarship Competitions, PGR Scholarship Applicant Guidance and PGR Scholarship Competency-Based Assessment Criteria, and UKRI's stipend page.
