Program Overview
The Yenching Academy is a college at Peking University in Beijing that offers an interdisciplinary Master of Arts in China Studies. About 120 new Yenching Scholars are enrolled each year, around three quarters of them international students, and graduates of any discipline are welcome. All scholars receive a full fellowship that covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, a monthly stipend, one round trip to Beijing, medical insurance and designated research trips.
Applications for the 2027 cohort opened on 1 September 2026. The deadline for international applicants is 9:00 am Beijing time on 30 November 2026, and all materials, including recommendation letters, must be in before that time (partner university nominees have until 7 December 2026). Students and graduates of partner universities must first go through their own university's internal selection; everyone else applies directly on the Yenching Academy portal. The official deadline is 11/30/2026. We highly recommend submitting your application at least a week prior to avoid server congestion.
Most universities allow you to apply with a "Hope Certificate" or provisional transcript if you are in your final semester, provided you graduate before the intake starts.
