How scholarships work in China

China funds international students mainly through the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), which works with hundreds of universities, and through programmes run by individual universities and academies. Many awards cover tuition, housing and a monthly stipend. For master's and PhD study, contacting a supervisor before you apply often matters as much as your grades.
