A two-week plan for a 15 November deadline

If you start around 1 November, this plan fits most applications that need an essay, a CV and one or two references.

Days Tasks
Days 1–2 Confirm eligibility on the official page. Ask your referees and send them your CV and the closing date.
Days 3–5 Request transcripts and translations. Draft your main essay, statement or research idea.
Days 6–9 Revise the essay. Update your CV for this award. Fill in the online form.
Days 10–11 Ask a friend or teacher to read everything once. Check names, dates and word limits.
Days 12–13 Submit. Confirm that your referees have uploaded their letters.
Day 14 Spare day for problems with the portal or a missing document.

Which ones fit you?

  • Still in school or an undergraduate: Lester B. Pearson (if already nominated), PPIA Junior Summer Institute (if you study in the USA), USTC Winter Camp, EPFL Summer Research Program, Padua (bachelor’s).
  • Planning a master’s: APU MEXT, University of Auckland (if invited), Padua, Sciences Po, Yenching Academy, ETH Zurich, Institute of Science Tokyo.
  • Planning a PhD: Imperial, Trudeau (if eligibility was confirmed), TDTU, JUSTCOOL, OIST, APU MEXT, Institute of Science Tokyo, Erfurt, Shenzhen.
  • Research experience as a student: Max Planck internships, EPFL Summer Research Program, USTC Winter Camp.
  • Working professionals and young leaders: Harvard LEAD, Global Leadership Challenge, MIT Solve.

How to finish an application in the last few weeks

A short deadline does not mean you should skip it, but you need to be realistic. Use this order:

  1. Check eligibility first. Read the rules on our page and the official site. Several awards in this list need an earlier step, such as a nomination or an offer of admission.
  2. Ask referees today. Reference letters take the longest. Give referees the closing date, your CV and a short note on what the award looks for.
  3. Order documents that need other offices. Transcripts, degree certificates and certified translations can take one to two weeks.
  4. Check test scores. If an English test score is required and you do not have one, check the earliest test date and whether the provider accepts a later score.
  5. Write the main essay or proposal next. It is the part you control. Write it once well rather than starting several applications badly.
  6. Submit a few days early. Portals can be slow near the deadline, and some referees can only upload after you submit.

Our scholarship application checklist lists the documents most applications ask for, and our guide on recommendation letters explains how to brief referees quickly.

How many to apply for in one month

Most students cannot write more than two or three strong applications in a few weeks. Choose the ones where you clearly meet every rule and where your profile fits what the provider wants. A complete, specific application for two awards is better than rushed ones for six. Our article on how many scholarships to apply for explains how to build a balanced list.

If you miss a November deadline

  • Later rounds: Imperial has rounds closing on 11 January and 1 March 2027.
  • December deadlines: our list of scholarships closing in December 2026 has more than 20 awards with confirmed dates.
  • December and January deadlines: many Erasmus Mundus master’s programmes close between December 2026 and February 2027. See our Erasmus Mundus deadlines guide.
  • Next year: most of these awards run every year. Closed opportunities stay on our Past and Closed scholarships page, so you can prepare for the next round.
  • More options: browse all open opportunities on the scholarships page, filtered by country and degree level.

Undergraduates can look at the PPIA Junior Summer Institute (for students at US colleges), the USTC International Winter Camp, the EPFL Summer Research Program after two years of study, and the Max Planck computer science internships. School leavers can look at the Padua scholarship for English-taught bachelor’s degrees, and at Pearson only if their school has already nominated them.

Are these dates final?

They are the closing dates the providers announced when we checked. Providers can change dates, so confirm the date on the official page linked from each scholarship page.

Will this list be updated?

Yes. We update it when we add a new opportunity with a November 2026 closing date or when a provider changes a date. We will publish a separate list for December 2026.
