Program Overview

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is a graduate research university on the Red Sea coast in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. Every student admitted to a KAUST graduate programme receives the KAUST Fellowship, so there is no separate scholarship application. The fellowship covers full tuition, a living allowance of 20,000 to 30,000 US dollars a year (depending on your qualifications and progress), housing, medical and dental cover and relocation support. Applications for Fall 2027 entry (MS, MS/PhD and PhD) are open. Round 2 opened on 28 September 2026 and the deadline is 3 January 2027. Decisions are expected on 14 February 2027 and the semester starts on 29 August 2027. KAUST says these dates are tentative and may change, and it does not state a closing time, so apply early. The Spring 2027 round, which was for PhD applicants only, closed on 27 September 2026. This page was last checked against the KAUST admissions website on 7 October 2026. Last checked 8 October 2026 against KAUST admissions pages: there is no application fee, and the GRE is not required (a strong score may help). You give the contact details of three referees, using their academic or work e-mail addresses. The statement of purpose is about 750 words. The minimum grade average is 3.0 out of 4.0. English minimums on the entry requirements page are IELTS 7.0 with 6.5 in each section, the new TOEFL iBT scale 5 with 4.5 in each section, PTE 71 or Cambridge C1/C2 185. Duolingo and medium-of-instruction letters are not accepted. Some programmes may show different scores, so check your programme page. You may apply to one programme a year.
