Institute of Science Tokyo MEXT Scholarship 2027 in Japan (IGP(A), Fully Funded Master’s and Doctoral Programme)

The Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo), which includes the former Tokyo Institute of Technology, can recommend a small number of applicants to its International Graduate Program (A), or IGP(A), for the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship. IGP(A) is taught in English and leads to a master's degree, or to a master's and doctorate through the Integrated Doctoral Education Program. MEXT pays JPY 147,000 a month to master's students and JPY 148,000 a month to doctoral students. Science Tokyo waives the enrolment fee and tuition, and MEXT provides air tickets to and from Japan under certain conditions. The scholarship first runs for two years and can be extended to the doctorate with a master's GPA of 2.50 or higher and other conditions. The IGP(A) application guide says the MEXT scholarship is for applicants to the Integrated Doctoral Education Program with outstanding academic records. You must be a citizen of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan (Japanese citizens cannot apply), be 34 or younger on 1 April of the first scholarship year, have a GPA of at least 2.30 out of 3.00 in your last degree, and show English at CEFR B2 or equivalent. Only the Priority scheme is used from 2026, and at least 75% of nominees come from countries chosen by MEXT. Before you can apply, a Science Tokyo faculty member must agree to supervise you. Send a copy of their consent letter to the Admissions Division by 15 November 2026. The closing date for the full application and the MEXT documents is 22 November 2026. The application fee is JPY 30,000 plus a system fee. It is refunded if you receive MEXT and enrol at Science Tokyo. IGP(A) admission results come in March 2027, MEXT tells successful candidates by early August 2027, and students arrive in Japan in late September 2027.
