Program Overview

The United Nations University (UNU) runs a Junior Fellows Internship Programme in the Office of the Rector at its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. The spring 2027 internship lasts about six months (24 weeks), from 1 March to 27 August 2027, full-time from Monday to Friday. The work is mainly on site, with some flexibility for remote work. Junior Fellows support the Rector's office with research and writing such as briefs, planning, analysis of university operations, event coordination, meeting minutes, editing and communications. Interns who have no other financial support receive a monthly stipend to partly cover living costs, including transport. UNU sets the amount for each duty station; the figure is not stated on the official page. Interns also get office space and free access to the library and gym where available. Applicants must be studying for, or have completed within the last two years, a master's or doctoral degree, be 32 or younger when they apply, have no more than five years of work experience in the related field and be fluent in English. Applications from developing countries and from women are strongly encouraged. The closing date is 1 November 2026. UNU does not charge any application fee. This page was last checked against the UNU careers website on 21 October 2026.
