Program Overview

The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) at ETH Zurich supports outstanding students who join a master's programme at one of the world's leading universities for science and technology. Scholars receive a grant for living and study costs each semester and a full tuition fee waiver for the regular length of the programme (three or four semesters), together with mentoring and the network of the ETH Foundation. The grant is CHF 12,000 per semester and rises to CHF 13,500 per semester from autumn semester 2027. ETH plans to award about 60 scholarships for the 2027/28 academic year. You can apply for ESOP only in the first master's application window, 1 to 30 November 2026, for a start in autumn 2027. You apply inside ETH's eApply portal, as part of your master's application. ETH's page gives the closing time on 30 November as 11:59 in one place and 12:59 in another (Central European Time), so treat the deadline as around midday, not midnight, and submit a few days early. The selection may include a phone or video interview in February 2027, and decisions are communicated by the end of March 2027. This page was last checked against the ETH Zurich website on 7 October 2026.
