Program Overview

The Harvard LEAD Fellowship is a one-year leadership programme for experienced global health professionals who are based or working in a low- or middle-income country. It is run by the Harvard Global Health Institute together with the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The 2027–2028 fellowship runs from 1 September 2027 to 31 August 2028. In autumn 2027 fellows take part online from their home country, including one-on-one executive coaching, and they are not expected to stop their normal work. In April 2028 they spend six weeks in residence in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where they join an executive education course, leadership workshops, mentoring and public speaking opportunities. Fellows also have monthly mentoring with Harvard faculty during the whole year. Harvard describes the fellowship as fully funded. Visa fees, housing and flights are covered, and fellows receive a living stipend for the time they spend in residence. The official page does not state the stipend amount. To apply, you need at least a master's degree in a relevant field, full-time work in global health and at least 10 years of professional experience. Work done as a university student does not count. You need the full support of your employer, you must be able to take six weeks of leave in April 2028, and you should plan to return to your low- or middle-income country after the fellowship. The fellowship is open to all genders. Applications for the 2027–2028 cohort close on 15 November 2026. Harvard's announcement says the programme has welcomed 26 fellows from 21 countries so far. This page was last checked against the Harvard Global Health Institute website and the Harvard Gazette announcement on 17 October 2026.
