Max Planck Computer Science Summer Internships 2027 in Germany (Stipend, Housing and Travel)

The Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS) runs research internships in computer science together with several other Max Planck Institutes in Germany. The internships are for exceptional undergraduate and graduate students. Interns receive a monthly stipend, free shared housing, and travel to and from the institute that hosts them. The official page does not state the stipend amount. A typical internship lasts 12 to 14 weeks, and longer internships are possible. Each intern is given a faculty mentor, and the project depends on the intern's academic interests, maturity and prior experience. MPI-SWS takes interns all year, but most choose the summer. For a summer 2027 internship starting between May and August, the closing date is 1 November 2026. For any other start date, the official page asks you to apply at least four months before you want to start. You apply online with your CV, transcripts and contact details for at least one referee. A motivation letter is optional. You can also name the faculty members you would like to work with and your preferred dates. The official page does not set a nationality restriction or a minimum grade. Places are limited and admission is very competitive. Last checked on 15 October 2026 against the official MPI-SWS research careers page.
