University of Twente Scholarship Application 2027: Eligibility, Award, Documents and How to Apply

Your Twente Scholarship application can cut the cost of a Master’s degree at the University of Twente (UT) in Enschede, one of the Netherlands’ technical universities. The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) gives excellent students from outside the EU/EEA between 3,000 and 22,000 euros for the first year, and it can be renewed for the second year of a two-year Master’s. This guide explains who can apply, what the award pays, the order of the steps and the 1 April 2027 deadline. The key facts are also on our University of Twente Scholarship 2027 listing.

We checked every detail on 28 October 2026 against the official University of Twente pages. Where UT does not give a detail, we say so.

What the scholarship pays

UT awards between 3,000 and 22,000 euros for one year. The university does not publish how it decides the amount for each student. The money is meant as compensation for study-related costs: it is paid to you, you decide how to spend it, and UT does not pay tuition fees or other costs on your behalf.

  • Second year. On a two-year Master’s you can receive the same amount again for year two if, at the end of the third quartile of year one, you have an average grade of 7 out of 10 and at least 50 percent of your European Credits.
  • Kipaji Scholarship. UTS recipients from the Least Developed Countries and Other Low Income Countries on the DAC list can be considered for up to 12,000 euros extra. You do not apply separately; you say in your UTS motivation that you would like to be considered.
  • One award only. You can only be awarded one UT scholarship.

The UTS is not a full scholarship. For 2027/2028 the institutional tuition fee for a full-time Master’s is 18,720 euros a year for lower-rate programmes (such as Business Administration, Communication Science, European Studies and Psychology) and 22,320 euros a year for higher-rate programmes. UT estimates average living costs at about 1,311 euros a month. UT asks applicants to apply only if they can pay the remaining costs without problems.

Who can apply

You can apply for the UTS if you meet all of these requirements:

  • you are a non-EU/EEA national who pays the institutional tuition fee (if your Dutch residence permit makes you eligible for the statutory fee, you cannot apply);
  • you have been (provisionally) admitted to a qualifying UT Master’s programme starting in September 2027 and have a UT student number;
  • you are among the best 5 to 10 percent of your graduating class at your home university;
  • you have Academic IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT 90) with at least 6.0 for speaking (TOEFL iBT 20);
  • you are not eligible for a Dutch study loan and meet the conditions for a Dutch entry visa, if you need one; and
  • you have not graduated from a UT programme and are not a current UT student.

The UTS is not available for Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) or for pre-Master’s programmes. Qualifying programmes include Applied Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, Business Information Technology, Civil Engineering & Management, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Industrial Design Engineering, Interaction Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Public Administration, Robotics and Sustainable Energy Technology, among others.

For admission itself, UT lists minimum grades by country. For example, applicants from Pakistan need at least a four-year Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or 70 percent, and applicants from India need a four-year Bachelor’s with at least 75 percent (First Class). Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission, and the UTS asks for much more: a place in the top 5 to 10 percent of your class.

The Master’s deadline for non-EEA nationals is 1 May 2027, but that is too late for the scholarship. You need a (conditional) admission letter before you can fill in the UTS form, and UT says it can take up to 8 weeks to get a result after your application is complete. Aim to submit your Master’s application by January 2027. In Pakistan (PKT), 16:00 in the Netherlands on 1 April 2027 is 7:00 pm, because Dutch summer time will have started.

What you need to submit

  • A complete Master’s application started in Studielink, with all required documents uploaded in Osiris. Check your programme page for its document list.
  • Your (conditional) admission letter and student number. The UTS form asks for your UT student number.
  • Your motivation in the UTS application form, including a request to be considered for the Kipaji Scholarship if you are eligible.
  • English test results that meet the UTS level of IELTS 6.5 overall and 6.0 for speaking (or TOEFL iBT 90 and 20).

UT does not publish a word limit for the motivation or a full list of form questions. Treat the motivation as a short statement of purpose: why this programme, why UT and what you will do afterwards. Our motivation letter template for Master’s scholarships is a good starting point.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Pick a qualifying programme. Check that it is on the UTS list and is not an ITC programme.
  2. Register in Studielink. Choose your UT Master’s for September 2027. Applications open on 1 October 2026.
  3. Complete your application in Osiris. You will receive login details by email; upload your documents and submit.
  4. Wait for your admission letter. A conditional admission letter is enough to apply for the UTS.
  5. Fill in the UTS form with your student number and motivation.
  6. Submit by 1 April 2027, 16:00 CET. Do not wait for the last day.
  7. Check your email in May. Results are announced in the first week of May 2027.

Tips for a strong application

  • Apply for admission early. The biggest risk is not getting an admission letter in time for the 1 April deadline.
  • Show that you are in the top 5 to 10 percent. If your university issues class rank letters, include one with your admission documents.
  • Check your English scores. The UTS speaking minimum (6.0) may be higher than your programme’s own requirement; see IELTS vs TOEFL if you still need to test.
  • Plan your budget. Work out the gap between the award, the tuition fee and about 1,311 euros a month for living costs before you accept.
